Delve into the provocative and visually striking world of Les Fruits de la passion (also known as Fruits of Passion), directed by the visionary Shūji Terayama. Released in 1981, this audacious erotic drama serves as a spiritual continuation of the infamous classic, The Story of O. Set in 1920s China, the film follows O (Isabelle Illiers) who, to prove her absolute devotion to her domineering lover Sir Stephen (the legendary Klaus Kinski), submits to a life in an exotic brothel. Blending European decadence with Terayama’s avant-garde surrealist aesthetics, the film explores complex themes of power, submission, and unconditional love against a backdrop of political unrest.
